Grown Men Playing Computer Games? Sad Or Not?

So there is a divide with peoples opinions on grown men who play computer games. What is your opinion, are they all sad, or is it just an accepted part of living in 2012?

The home gaming revolution started way back in the 70s with things like pong, and slowly they have developed and emerged more into the home, and we have the super consoles such as the PS3 and XBOX 360 in homes today. These consoles are no longer considered pure gaming devices, but complete entertainment systems capable of downloading content, streaming TV and watching back movies.

We consider the best time for computers and gaming to be the mid to late 90s, probably because that is when we started playing, but we also believe that was the true start of home gaming, embraced by both adults and kids. The Sega Megadrive and Nintendo ?NES? were probably the first consoles to capture the mass market and make them the must have present on Christmas lists worldwide. The current generation of young adults grew up with computer games as children, and so many tend to associate gaming with kids, and being childish.

From our geek t-shirts department we came up with this ?Gamers are lamers? t-shirt which would support their argument. If you think that someone is sad for playing a computer game then this is a great little t-shirt to get.

There is another side to this. Some geeks who play games take them way too seriously, and they take up a huge part of their life. Should you let your grown up life be taken over by a game, should you not have better things to do with your time?

This is probably what you call taking gaming too far, or to a whole new level. Games are supposed to be fun, not be your entire life, and this is where we think we have the divide on gaming, whether it is sad or whether it is just some fun.

We are fans of playing computer games, but not serious about it. This is the fine balance, and we think that playing on our consoles is perfectly fine, in fact we love to do it. It is the perfect thing to do when you want to kill a bit of time, when you want to just sit down and relaxed and get away from the world for a little while, but you should remember to return to it! :D

If you are an uber geek then you may not agree, but that is what we think. Gaming is a great way to chill and relax for a little while, to take a break from work.

What about gaming with your friends, is that still sad, worse or fine? We think that gaming with a few people can be really fun, depending on the games you play on. An old favourite for us was the button bashing Track and field for the old Playstation which was a great game to play. Up to four players at once which was great, all competing against each other, playing the game at the same time and not ?hot swapping? which made it really fun. The next-generation has taken it to a whole new level with things such as the Nintendo Wii where you are more or less in the game with the motion controllers, which adds to the fun factor.

So in conclusion is it sad? We think not. Like all things, it is good in moderation, and playing a solo game is relaxing while playing with friends can be really good fun.
