TODAY: SUPERSTORM SANDY Bashes East Coast. Wind gusts of 60 to 80+ mph have been reported in several coastal locations from Massachusetts to coastal New Jersey and coastal Maryland.?The National Weather Service has issued a statement indicating that damaging wind gusts of 70 to 90 mph are possible in the New York City metro area, Long Island and southern Connecticut through 8 pm EDT Monday. HAWAII EVENTS ON THIS DAY ? October 29th

  • 1915: The submarine F-4 is brought to the surface and towed to Honolulu Harbor. Twenty-one men were killed when the sub sank on March 25.
  • 1920: Duke Kahanamoku wins the 100-meter freestyle event in the Antwerp Olympics.
